How to Survivify: A Long-Distance Relationship

In a committed relationship, there isn't much that can drag one person away from the other for an extended period of time. So if there is something that has come between you, geographically speaking, it must be extremely important -- such as college, graduate school, work, military deployment, or some other serious obligation.

But don't despair. Sometimes technology can help bridge the gap (yay, Skype!). And if you can keep some sort of schedule for calls and visits, things just might work out for you. What's the secret to a successful relationship when you're not in the same area code? Share your best advice below!

Tips from the trenches:

  • Switch to credit cards that give great frequent flyer miles (but pay your balance each month).
  • Check out OneSuite or Vonage or other cheap long distance calling alternatives if you're on different cell phone plans.
