Frequently Asked Questions
Survivify offers a collection virtual survival kits on everything from surviving a zombie attack to surviving a road trip with small kids. Here, you can mock life's difficulties, look on the bright side, and share some black humor with others in similar circumstances. Add tips and suggest more items for survival kits already on the site, and then console yourself or others by creating your own customized kits.
All survival kits have the same components. You'll find helpful suggestions and various do's and don'ts in the "Tips from the trenches" area. There are also some thoughts about how things could be worse in the "Look on the bright side" section. You'll find links to books, playlists, movies, and other miscellaneous items available for purchase that members found useful in their own experience in the kit provisions section. And finally, each kit has some good quotes to help put things into context.
To add Tips and Bright side comments, just click on the "Add one" link and a form will appear. Type your comments in the form and then click the "Save" button. To add a quote, click on the plus sign and complete the form. Note that once your comment is published, there is no ability to edit it, so please type carefully. When you want to add a kit provision, click on the "Add one" link and a search window will open. Start typing and then select the item from the search results. If Amazon doesn't have what you're looking for, click on the "create your own" link." This will let you type in a URL pointing to the exact item you wish to add (this can also include a link to a resource site or a relevant event, etc.). To keep your content anonymous, check the "You didn't hear it from me" box. However, we suggest leaving the box unchecked, so that members who like what you have to say can easily find other content you've contributed.
For the time being, we have no plans to add additional top-level categories, but this may change as the site grows. We do periodically add sub-categories based on the kits that are being added, so feel free to drop us a note at email@example.com with suggestions.
Click on the "Make a Kit" link that can be found at the top of every page. Create a title, upload a picture if you'd like, select the appropriate category or categories, and then add a description. Note that you cannot edit this information once it's published, so please review everything before you click the Save button. To keep your kit anonymous, check the "You didn't hear it from me" box. However, we suggest leaving the box unchecked, so that members who like what you have to say can easily find other content you've contributed.
We make every effort to remove offensive content from the site. Each kit page has a link that you can use to flag a kit with offensive content. You can also contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to report items to us. Be sure to include a link to the kit and tell us what you found inappropriate.
Members do not have any means of contacting each other, so in that sense Survivify is not a social networking site. And your real name will not be shared with anyone else unless you have used it as your screen name, which we don't recommend. However, there definitely are "social" elements to the site. You can subscribe to the content of other members, and you can click on other members' survivor pages to see what they have written. This is why we encourage you to leave the "You didn't hear it from me" box unchecked, so that members who like what you have to say can easily find other content you've contributed.
Yes. We are able to keep Survivify free by hosting a limited number of contextual ads on the site. Also, you help keep Survivify free when you buy survival kit items directly from our site (i.e., by clicking through to a book or DVD and purchasing the item in the same session).
